Shadows of Luck - Zachari Smith

lyrics

I wrote this song when I was going to university and some of my friends were in a bad car accident. I was waiting in my apartment for them to get back and just started playing this song. It wasn’t till later that I realized how odd of a theological idea it was that luck could be an act of God. That there could be some kind of divine force behind chance. The idea still challenges me and I don’t really see myself as a fatalist but maybe sometimes it’s just a little more than luck.

I first started recording this song when I was staying in Maine 4 years ago. I was playing this old out of tune piano and had a little recording set up. Until this week the song had a vocal and piano from that time but after listening to it I thought it needed something else. I finally got rid of the piano and retracked the vocal. I wanted something more raw and instinctuel.

"Shadows of Luck"
by Zachari Smith
words and music by Zachari Smith (C) 2018 Acre Alley

See the smoke rising
From the ashes of friends
only a picture of what could have been

Take my hands friends
I'll lead you home
The darkness in here
Doesn't know our love songs
Hotter than Hell
The rubber burned up
leaving the Sun were
The Shadows of Luck
The Shadows of Luck

Call forth the feeling
Call forth the thought
And let the thankfulness come
In the dark thats turned up

Take my hands friends
I'll lead you home
The darkness in here
Doesn't know our love songs
Hotter than Hell
The rubber burned up
leaving the Sun were
The shadows of luck
The shadows of luck

The shadows turned up
Riding on the wings
Of some greater beings
That this news can't explain

We feel you here
Running through our viens
Jesus the lord
Broke through the waves

To catch out dear friends
Bring them all home
Safe for today in the arms of the lord
See the world brighter
Than ever before
Because Jesus was here
Amidst the wreck of the world
and the shadows of luck
